Who is PRF gel for?

Platelet-rich-fibrin (PRF) gel has hit the aesthetic industry by storm. Long are the days that providers will inject the tear trough without a second thought to it. With the rise in popularity of ultrasound, providers are finding that filler in the tear trough region is tricky and cannot always be done on every patient.

PRF gel has had a rise in the industry due to the biostimulation for the tricky under eye area as well as slight volumization in an area that can’t always be treated with traditional hyaluronic acid fillers. PRF gel is great for patients who want a more “natural approach” to aesthetics. The collagen stimulation can help mask some of the darkness under the eyes by thickening the skin and concealing blood vessels better, adding slight volume to reduce shadowing, and with texture in those hard-to-reach areas.

Benefits of PRF gel (EZ gel)

  • Longer-lasting growth factor activity

    • PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) concentrates platelets and leukocytes that release growth factors. The gel matrix slows release, prolonging exposure of tissues to these signaling molecules for enhanced repair and remodeling.

  • Enhanced scaffold and stability

    • The fibrin matrix in PRF gel provides a three-dimensional scaffold that supports cell migration, angiogenesis, and tissue integration. This structural support helps guide regenerative processes and improves graft/implant stability in the treatment area.

  • Albumin-mediated growth factor preservation

    • Adding albumin into the gel (as in EZ Gel formulations that include albumin) binds and stabilizes growth factors and other proteins. Albumin helps protect growth factors from rapid degradation and diffusion, allowing them to remain active at the treatment site longer and improving their biological effectiveness.

  • Improved tissue regeneration and healing

    • Sustained growth factor release and the fibrin scaffold stimulate collagen production, neovascularization, and extracellular matrix remodeling, which can improve skin quality, texture, and elasticity over weeks to months.

  • Subtle volume enhancement

    • The gel component provides mild volumization and structural support to soft tissues. It can smooth contour irregularities, improve facial lines, and provide gentle lift without the immediate fill effect of synthetic fillers—ideal for subtle, natural-looking enhancement.

  • Reduced inflammation and lower infection risk

    • PRF contains leukocytes and immune-mediating proteins that can modulate inflammation and contribute to local antimicrobial effects, potentially reducing complication risk and promoting healthier healing.

  • Autologous and biocompatible

    • PRF gel is prepared from the patient’s own blood, minimizing risk of allergic reaction and foreign-body response. This autologous approach is well suited for patients seeking regenerative, biologic options.

  • Versatile applications

    • PRF gel can be used for facial rejuvenation, scar revision, periorbital rejuvenation, hair restoration adjunct therapy, and to enhance outcomes of microneedling, laser resurfacing, or surgical procedures.

What to expect?

During your appointment, two vials of blood are drawn (be sure to be well-hydrated) and each is prepared differently to draw out the PRF in one tube and albumin in the other. One is heated, the other cooled, and when mixed together, create the PRF gel mixture. Depending on the treatment area, numbing is done to create comfort during the injection. Typically, a cannula is used to place the PRF gel safely under the eyes or in other parts of the face that need slight volume and collagen stimulation (we won’t waste a drop of the liquid gold!).

Over the next few weeks, expect gradual improvement in skin quality and tissue tone. Volumizing effects are subtle and integrate naturally into the surrounding tissues. Typically, 2-3 treatments are recommended for optimal regenerative results.
